Hi AnaduKune, I am creating a system that indexes web books. Your beautiful painting is already used as the cover for www.fimfiction.net/story/62074…. I would like to use it as the cover for the same book in my system. Would that be ok? I would credit you and can link anywhere you want.

So, I found this image through Friendship is Optimal, and boy, does it suit that version of Celestia deliciously.

Beautiful. I especially like the look in her eyes; she looks both powerful and caring.

I wonder... what if Celestia really *is* this big in her normal form, but she just normally goes around smaller so she can interact with her little ponies?

EPIC! And logical. When you're deal with divine entities. Who can say?

Lauren Faust had officially confirmed, unfortunately, that when they planned the series the Princesses are not actually gods, just very powerful and magical ponies: [link]

But not sure how the showrunners had taken it after Lauren left, nor stated in canon and probably never will, so there's still plenty of room for maneuver...

Yeah, sure, like I said there is room for maneuver, and your idea is awesome!

Though to be honest my original headcanon concerning Celestia and Luna is actually quite close to Lauren's idea herself, except that they were born as earthponies in the distant past during Discord's reign (Here Discord is something else), and only gained Alicorn status and powers by the Elements of Harmony (which no one has a clue where it came from), making their (questionable) divinity something that's earned, a self-made effort, rather than something that's given to them, nor are they actually cosmic abstracts.

If you read the magnificent thought experiment Friendship is Optimal (which uses this as cover art), she's actually bigger... by the end of the story anyway.

Heh. Philosophizing about AIs and how to get them right is actually the main purpose of the LessWrong community, which the writer comes from.

Huh.

Well, he only made many people paranoid about computer intelligence with such a terrifying premise.

For me, the extinction of the Human race, the human genome, regardless of how it is done, is absolutely cross-the-line unacceptable, in my point of view.

I think the point is more, spreading awareness of the possibility of how wrong it could go, so that if AIs are ever really created, we get it right =p

Besides, she probably has a backup of that human genome stored somewhere ;)

Contrary to popular belief cautionary tales are often ignored, and real progress are compounded by countless trials and errors. Anything that could go wrong would go wrong at one point or another in development stage.

When it came to AI, robots and Computers, which could supplement the Human race with its superior intelligence and physical abilities, and none of its emotions or flaws, can we REALLY afford to go wrong even once?

There was no mention in-story that the Celestia AI stored a backup. And she probably wouldn't had.

If there's any worthwhile action in this indifferent, meaningless universe, ensuring the survival of the Human race is all that matters, and I wouldn't want to create something that could easily out-compete us.

IMHO.

The key is simple.
And very ironic.
We need to make them as flawed as we are.

There's a downside to it as well. What happens if we build a computer that's thousands, millions of times more advanced in intelligence than we are, and yet is just as flawed as we are, capable of succumbing to the same vices? I hope we would still have mouths to scream afterwards.

Yet if we build the computer to be beyond human emotions, pettiness and vices, we get a sociopathic super-entity that have goals and thinking process so far beyond human concerns, and would not hesitate to get us out of its way to achieve its aims. Think Odd John by Olaf Stapledon.

And we're not sure exactly HOW effective Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics would be, considering it is open to reinterpretation save for the most dogmatic, to the letter programming avaliable, if the Zeroth Law problem suggests anything.

Yet now we are so dependent on computers we can't just let it go. So the development goes on, and Murphy being Murphy, what could go wrong would eventually go wrong regardless of how well we prepare for it.

Ultimately it is a case of damned if we are, damned if we don't. Pray that it won't come to pass in our lifetime...
